Home Part 1

Home Part 2

For my Home project, I got pictures that purely just reminded me of home. The first two are from my home town. I like them because it shows the nice sides of Bradford and they remind me of the nice things of home, and I like the shallow depth of field in the first one and the colours of the sky in the second one contrasting against the almost black buildings almost have an aesthetic feel to them. The third one is of the Lincoln river from my accommodation window, I took this because where back home we have a canal near by with river boats on and it reminds me of when I was younger. I love living near water mostly because it reminds me of home and there is something peaceful and comfortable about water.  The fourth and fifth pictures are more personal. The fourth one is my Granddad holding my nephew who is also in the fifth picture. The fourth one is one of the first times he held him and the fifth one is where I caught him still. I love these pictures because they are of my family. The last one was something I made up but it goes more along the lines of that when we think of home, some people think of their warms beds, especially when it is cold. But also the toy is something my mum bought me years ago and it’s a little bit of home I can physically carry with me where ever I am.

I think I got quite lucky with these photos apart from the third and fourth photos which on both, the lighting I couldn’t really control. However when ever I think of Home, these are the things I think of and every person has their own interpretation of home.

Portraits

DSCN0504 Elliott NicolaAndrew

With these portraits I took a risk and used natural lighting however I think using natural light wasn’t that bad. I have never felt comfortable taking portraits and I think it shows in my work and that’s why I think it is not at the best quality I could have done. I think I could have used other lighting and maybe a reflector. If I were to do this again, I think I could have tried to have the same background for all the photo’s.

The route I went down was what the subject was comfortable with. It’s weird that we have become a society where our first thought when we see a camera is to smile and it is what we feel comfortable doing. Some people don’t feel comfortable in front of a camera non stop however they will still smile. I used my own Nikon camera to take these photos and as it still does a good job, I think if I do it again, I would have borrowed a Canon and tried to do them properly but when I first started to take these, I didn’t have much of an idea in mind that’s why I didn’t take a camera out in the first place.

Things

Before edit:

Triptych

After edit:

shiny thing 2

First the edit: I had to edit the last picture of the pins because the background had a black line due to the background I use, moved. I used photoshop to edit it and make sure it looks better and the black line wasn’t there any more by using the copy and eraser tool as other tools I used didn’t work and made it look worse.

The background I used was made of a cardboard box with plain A3 paper inside. The lighting I used was by a normal battery powered torch which I am proud of how it turned out. However if I were to do it again, I might have choose another object than the pins however I like the bangle and the skateboard bearing as they were nice to photograph.

Appropriation

bananas

This picture was mainly made for fun but the meaning behind this could be that the simplest of objects can be given characteristics or a different meaning just by editing. People who saw this thought it was cute and funny, whilst when you think of bananas, they are just fruit. Editing it the way I did, gave it different characteristics to what you normally would give to this object.

Appro 3

With this picture I found of an array of pencils, I thought this idea of giving them all the same lead would be cool. It can be seen as a demonstration of everyone is different on the outside but we are the same on the inside no matter what our outsides are. I thought the text would look good as it looks like it was shaded in with a pencil which matches the rest of the picture.
